Update: A New Chapter in my Social Work Journey
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve started a new role at Homewood, marking my first official position in the field of social work since graduating with my Master of Social Work from the University of Windsor this past June.
This milestone has been a long time coming. When I lost my part-time job at Guelph Community Acupuncture in March 2020, I had to change my plan to work there until retirement. Like many others during the pandemic, I found myself rethinking my career path. I realized I work better when I have more balance in my career; working on my own in private practice, while also working another job with colleagues who have different training and experience. Returning to school for social work felt like the right step towards this balance again.
Fast forward three years, and here I am, beginning a new position at Homewood. My new role focuses on Tobacco Cessation, where I’ll be supporting patients one-on-one and in groups, reviewing smoking research and policies, and collaborating with mental health professionals across various units. Having smoked for over 16 years myself, I’m passionate about this work and eager to learn more, while also building experience in addiction counselling.
While I’m not currently offering one-on-one therapy or counselling in my private practice, my growing background in mental health and addiction continues to influence my naturopathic work. It enhances my understanding of mental health and standards of care, and helps me better support clients navigating the mental health system.
